The Birnbeck Island Water Chute Splash Pool
The Water Chute was a massively-constructed attraction which was built on the north side of Birnbeck Pier in 1905. It remained there until 1931, when it was dismantled. According to Stan Terrell's book, 'Birnbeck Pier - A Short History', the chute's mechanism was not the most reliable of machinery, and it broke down quite frequently. No trace of it exists today, with the exception of a section of the walling of the splash pool very close to the North Jetty.
